when i rode they always had a "extraordinary oatmeal sweepstakes" where you could enter to win a bowl of oatmeal from the dining car.

Amtrak people have not become any saner while you've been away.
Remember the dining car attendant who tried to say "dining car" as many times as possible in every announcement?
